Eron Hamill

The Circle Craft Christmas Market returns to the Vancouver Convention Centre West next week, running from November 9-13. Each week leading up to the Market, we have been featuring exhibiting artists.

Today we’re highlighting Eron Hamill of Richmond, BC, who is new to the Market in 2016.

il_fullxfull-610763808_rvpe

Eron’s creative instincts have their roots in her family home in Port Townsend, WA. She grew up surrounded by painters, musicians, writers, and ceramists. That early exposure to a wide variety of creative disciplines had a strong impact on her aesthetic sensibilities.

She studied art history at Western Washington University, and then moved to Victoria, BC to continue her education at the University of Victoria. Later, she made the decision to move to Toronto so she could attend the Ontario College of Art and Design.

il_fullxfull-474740480_657a

She says, “I didn’t find my passion for metal and fire until years later when I took my first silversmith course. The inherent dichotomy of metal work remains deeply satisfying. The sterling silver is rigid, but with the right tools and techniques it becomes very malleable. Creating handcrafted jewellery requires strength, sometimes brute force, and delicacy of hand. The masculine of fire and hammers becomes the feminine of the jewellery itself.”

Circles are a recurrent theme in Eron’s work.

Dotty Dress Studio

The Circle Craft Christmas Market returns to the Vancouver Convention Centre West next week, running from November 9-13. Each week leading up to the Market, we have been featuring exhibiting artists.

Today we’re highlighting Dotty Dress Studio of Toronto, ON, who is new to the Market in 2016.

dotty-dress-1

As a child, designer Heather Wilson realized she had an obsession with clothing and fashion, not just how it looked and fit, but she was fascinated by the history of fashion, the process of creating textiles, and how the two come together to become clothing. Heather’s love of everything vintage, from cars to clothing, textiles to tattoos, helps her keep the history of fashion alive in her work.

After graduating from The Academy of Design in Toronto, Heather began her career in fashion wholesale as a sales representative for New York designer Ellen Tracy. She went on to launch her own fashion wholesale agency, representing numerous women’s wear collections from Europe, Canada, and the US.

dotty-dress-2

The Dotty dress collection was created after fielding numerous requests from clients searching for feminine, sophisticated, fun day dresses. Through her fashion education and work experience, Heather knows what women are looking for in a dress, and she translates that knowledge into her designs. Heather makes sure to infuse a little fashion history with her love of textiles, and always adds a vintage vibe to every dress.
